PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sava Savov (ranked 2494 p4p, 146 weight class) and Darryl Proffer (ranked 5910 p4p, 278 weight class). Proffer has chosen Butterfly (Come My Lady) as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Darryl Proffer!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Savov changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Proffer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Proffer explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Proffer has managed to clinch.
Savov tries a knee to the head but Proffer blocks it.
Savov content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Savov landing some nice looking knees to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Savov pulls guard effortlessly.

Proffer stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Proffer lands a nice looking kick to the body. Savov takes a step back to recover.
Proffer fails with a takedown attempt.
Proffer throws a head kick but Savov moves out of range.
Proffer throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Savov gets the takedown into side control.

Proffer sneaks out the side door and pushes Savov away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Savov blocks a leg kick.
A combination from Proffer does no damage.
Savov appears to be looking for a big counter.

Savov has managed to clinch.
Savov is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Proffer is defending well for now.
Proffer has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Proffer trying to control the position but instead, Savov has worked for underhooks and has pushed Proffer into the cage.

Savov lands a knee to the head.
Savov is pressed up against the cage. Proffer has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Savov down to the mat. Savov avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Savov displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Proffer.
Sava Savov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Darryl Proffer.

Proffer closes the distance and clinches.
Proffer tries to pull guard but Savov won't allow it.

Savov gets control of Proffer's arms and successfully pulls guard. Savov will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Proffer postures up.

Savov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Proffer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Proffer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Savov is on top in guard.

Savov might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Savov is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Savov lands a couple of elbows.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Savov is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Proffer tries to strike from the bottom.
Proffer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Savov is one step ahead there.
Savov connects with a couple of short punches.

Proffer is rocked!
Savov arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! Proffer's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!
