Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joey Diaz (ranked 1185 p4p, 160 weight class) and Mohsin Zaidi (ranked 957 p4p, 137 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joey Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Mohsin Zaidi!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zaidi ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Diaz thumps Zaidi with a low kick.
Diaz feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Zaidi's calf.
Zaidi lands with a kick to the ribs.
Zaidi fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Diaz has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Zaidi throws a chopping leg kick but Diaz manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Zaidi throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Diaz takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Zaidi avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
We've been informed that Zaidi has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Diaz takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Zaidi fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Diaz is out of range.
Diaz getting the better of the striking in that exchange.


It looks like Mohsin Zaidi has been cut.
Diaz jabs Zaidi right on the nose. Zaidi blinks but takes it well.
Zaidi shoots for a takedown but Diaz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Diaz misses with a leg kick.
Zaidi wants to land a leg kick but Diaz is out of range.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Zaidi shoots in for a double leg but Diaz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Zaidi rushes Diaz and presses him up against the cage.

Diaz pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Diaz shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Zaidi eats them both and turns towards Diaz to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Zaidi scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
We've been hearing good reports from Diaz's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diaz is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Diaz is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zaidi working the head with strikes.
Diaz is trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zaidi misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Zaidi misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Zaidi scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Diaz to see if he's OK.

Diaz is trying to buck Zaidi off.
Diaz is not in a great position here, taking some shots.


Diaz is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Zaidi in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Diaz pushes Zaidi away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Zaidi gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Zaidi lands a decent elbow from side control.
Oh Diaz is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Zaidi cracks Diaz with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Zaidi immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Diaz is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Zaidi!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mohsin Zaidi!
