TWGC 27 (185lbs, D3): London Qualifier - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a middleweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Rolf Ottke (ranked 6059 p4p, 79 weight class) and Xander Colton (ranked 3142 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Ottke might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Beautiful Day- U2. Xander Colton is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 3 losses; Rolf Ottke! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Xander Colton!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Sam Margolis and James Ackerman.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Colton rushes Ottke and presses him up against the cage.

Ottke has picked Colton up - he's going for a ride! Ottke dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Ottke seems to be working for a kimura but Colton defends the submission attempt.
Ottke passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Colton!

Ottke escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Colton gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Colton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ottke swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ottke is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Colton is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Colton has gone for a leg lock! Ottke slips out almost immediately though and dives into Colton's guard.

Colton has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ottke can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Ottke swings around for an armbar but Colton sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Ottke's guard.

Ottke is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Colton drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ottke manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Colton has Ottke in his guard.

Colton turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Ottke off and cradles Colton's limp body as Ottke celebrates with his corner.
