Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charles Barboza (ranked 3538 p4p, 322 weight class) and Kieran Thompson (ranked 2880 p4p, 278 weight class). Thompson comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Sabotage kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Charles Barboza is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Barboza feints and as Thompson raises his hands in defense, Barboza changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Barboza stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thompson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Thompson has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Barboza is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Thompson is defending well though. Barboza let's go of the attempt for now.

Barboza has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Thompson has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

We've been hearing good reports from Barboza's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
