PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ethan Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Coin Valesquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Coin Valesquez told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ethan Hunt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Coin Valesquez!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Valesquez has Hunt up against the cage in a clinch.

Valesquez wants the takedown. Hunt is fighting it off but Valesquez persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hunt's guard against the cage.
Hunt utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Valesquez is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Hunt could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hunt is trying to control the position but Valesquez postures up.
Valesquez slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Hunt is trying to control Valesquez's posture but Valesquez avoids it.

Valesquez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Valesquez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Valesquez cracks Hunt with a big right hand but Hunt just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Hunt tries to lock up and control but Valesquez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Hunt avoids a series of strikes thrown by Valesquez.

Valesquez is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Hunt is trying to escape the mount.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Hunt is looking to improve his position but Valesquez isn't that keen on the idea.
Valesquez takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Hunt takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Hunt is squirming around, avoiding Valesquez's attempts to control the action.

Valesquez lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Valesquez connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Valesquez jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Hunt manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Valesquez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hunt knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Valesquez decides to stand back up. Valesquez steps back and let's Hunt get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Coin Valesquez dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Valesquez throws a front kick aimed at Hunt's knee but Hunt avoids it well.
Ethan Hunt is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Valesquez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Hunt gets back to full guard.
Hunt has momentary wrist control but Valesquez slips an elbow through the middle.
Valesquez trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Valesquez is looking for a kimura but Hunt is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Valesquez to get the leverage.
Valesquez is looking to take a break and control but Hunt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Valesquez connects with a nice short shot to Hunt's temple.
Hunt has a hand on Valesquez's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Valesquez takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Valesquez is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Hunt has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Hunt!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hunt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Valesquez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Valesquez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Coin Valesquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Valesquez lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Hunt backs up against the cage.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Hunt tries to grapple but his opponent circles

Coin Valesquez has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hunt stops Valesquez from passing to mount.
Valesquez is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Hunt takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Valesquez is trying to move to mount but Hunt reverses beautifully and ends up in Valesquez's guard.

Valesquez has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hunt is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Valesquez.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hunt trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Valesquez is looking to improve his position but Hunt isn't that keen on the idea.
Valesquez wants to control but Hunt is having none of it.
Valesquez keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Valesquez looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Valesquez rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Coin Valesquez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Valesquez has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
