PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brutus Hayes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yuri Guresky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brutus Hayes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yuri Guresky!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Aleksandr Martynov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Hayes!

Hayes looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Hayes gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hayes closes the distance and clinches up with Guresky, looking for a takedown. Hayes pushes Guresky against the cage but Guresky circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Hayes moves in looking to clinch but Guresky pushes him off.
Hayes sizes up Guresky with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Hayes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Guresky is trying to control Hayes's posture but Hayes avoids it.
Hayes working the ground and pound.
Guresky wants to control but Hayes postures up.

Hayes looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Check out the look on Hayes's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hayes lands a decent elbow from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Guresky can't do much from the bottom here.
Guresky tries to bench press Hayes off him but Hayes keeps the position.

Hayes tries for a kimura but Guresky is defending well.

Hayes decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Hayes is breathing heavily.
Hayes fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Guresky tries for a takedown but Hayes circles away easily
and Hayes counters with a lovely shot to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hayes fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brutus Hayes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Guresky feints and then cracks Hayes's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hayes down.
Guresky shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hayes but Hayes pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hayes tries for a takedown but Guresky circles away easily

so Guresky counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Hayes throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Hayes keeping moving, preventing Guresky from controlling successfully.
Guresky landing with the ground and pound.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hayes had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Guresky is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Hayes Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Guresky's back instead.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hayes gets his hands free as Guresky looks to control.
Hayes lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Hayes is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Hayes gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Hayes gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Hayes apologises and we restart here on the feet.
No luck for Hayes with that takedown attempt.
Hayes has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Guresky shoots and misses

and Hayes decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Guresky's guard.
Hayes postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Guresky looking to control but Hayes passes into half guard.
Guresky wants to improve his position but Hayes is controlling well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hayes trying to control the pace.
Hayes is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Guresky really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hayes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hayes has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Guresky defend it? Hayes steps over the head and cranks it - Guresky is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Hayes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Brutus Hayes!
