Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Juan Villa (ranked 3183 p4p, 181 weight class) and Ariel Schroder (ranked 2827 p4p, 170 weight class). Juan Villa has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Juan Villa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ariel Schroder!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Dean Styles and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schroder connects with a looping right hand.
Villa fails to land with a series of punches.
Villa throws out a leg kick but Schroder moves out of range and Villa only half commits.
Villa throws a left and a right that both miss

and Schroder counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Villa manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Schroder keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Villa manages to break the clinch.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Villa enables Schroder to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Villa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Schroder throws a big right hand that misses.
Schroder postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Schroder seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Villa kicks Schroder off and gets to his feet.
Villa throws a head kick that misses.
Villa throws a lazy head kick

and Schroder decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Villa's guard.

Schroder sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Villa's guard.
Schroder is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Schroder wants to pass to mount but Villa is defending the position.
Villa pushes Schroder off looking to stand but Schroder dives back in and keeps control.
Villa is looking to get back to is feet but Schroder passes into side control.
Villa is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Schroder asserts his dominance and retains side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Schroder controls the position from side control.
Villa wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Villa is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

and Schroder counters with a single leg into guard. Villa didn't expect that.
Schroder controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Villa kicks Schroder off and gets to his feet.
Juan Villa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Schroder closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Villa throws a sloppy head kick and Schroder moves out of range easily.
Villa throws a right and a left that both miss.
We've been informed that Schroder has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Villa throws the left hand but Schroder avoids the punch easily.

and Schroder counters with a single leg into guard. Villa didn't expect that.
Villa is wriggling around but Schroder manages to pass to half guard.

Schroder stops Villa from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ariel Schroder will probably get the nod.
That's time! Villa's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Schroder counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Schroder is pushing down on Villa's leg trying to pass to half guard. Villa is fighting to maintain full guard but Schroder has managed to sneak the leg through.
Schroder stops Villa from getting back to his feet.
Ariel Schroder has got the better of the ground game so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Schroder is trying to work for a kimura but Villa is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Villa scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Schroder manages to mount him!
Schroder controlling the pace for now.

Schroder is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Villa can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Villa is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Schroder has taken his back!

Villa scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Schroder manages to mount him!

Villa tries to buck Schroder off so he can stand up but Schroder has got his back now - this could be big trouble! He's slapped on a rear naked choke that looks really tight! Villa falls backwards, slamming Schroder to the mat but Schroder holds on tight! Villa is forced to tap and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Ariel Schroder!
