Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Lance King (ranked 3555 p4p, 193 weight class) and Juan Santos (ranked 4848 p4p, 238 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lance King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juan Santos!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and .




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A nice leg kick lands there from King.
King tries to close the distance and clinch up but Santos swats him away and circles back towards the center.

King gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Santos stalling.
Santos drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
King jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Santos walks away with a smile on his face. King gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

King takes the fight into the clinch.
Santos prevents a takedown attempt there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Santos pulls guard effortlessly.

Santos had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. King defends it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
King wants to control from the top but Santos keeps moving.
Santos is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King preventing the sweep.
Santos is pulling down on King's head to control his posture.
Santos thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

King forces Santos back against the cage and clinches.
Santos jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as King walks away with a smile on his face. Santos gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Santos looks winded!
Santos throws a leg kick that is checked
and King cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Santos stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from King.

King clinches with his opponent.
Santos wants to stall.
King fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lance King. That's going to take a lot out of him.

King breaks the clinch.
Santos misses with a head kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

King gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Santos prevents a body shot from King.
Santos avoiding damage.
Santos looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Santos blocks a body shot from King.

King escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Santos misses with a wild body shot.
Santos shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with King but King pushes him off and we're back to square one.
King changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
King changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Santos tries to avoid it but King manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Santos to the ground. Santos escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Santos tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but King defends well and Santos ends up having to push King into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

King closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Santos did well to prevent King getting side control.
Santos is trying to maintain the position but King is very close to passing his half guard.

King is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
King with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Santos is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lance King dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Santos swats away the attempt to clinch by King.
Lance King is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
King dives in and grabs Santos's left leg, looking for a takedown. Santos pushes down on King's head and hops out.
King shoots in for a takedown but Santos shows good takedown defense.
King throws a head kick but Santos moves out of range.
Santos fails with an attempt to clinch.

King closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Santos's guard.
Our spies down at at Cozad MMA Los Angeles inform us that Santos has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Santos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
King is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Santos can do to turn this around?

Santos bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in King's guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

King is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Santos defends well.
King has a closed guard, preventing Santos from standing up.
Santos missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
King is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Santos throws a big elbow that misses.
Santos showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Santos stands up and waves to King to follow him.

Santos forces King back against the cage and clinches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King cracks Santos with a nice body shot.

King's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

King bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Santos takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
You can see the frustration on Santos's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Santos tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but King wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

King decides to stand back up. King steps back and let's Santos get back to his feet.
We've been told by King's head coaches at Cozad MMA Los Angeles that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Santos wants to clinch
and King counters with a nice low kick that buckles Santos's knee momentarily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Santos keeps the fight on the outside.
Santos tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
King is trying hard to land a takedown here. Santos sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lance King. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Santos shoots for a double leg takedown but King sprawls well. He's pushed Santos's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

King clinches.
King scores with an uppercut up the middle.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Santos lands a takedown into guard.

King has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Santos can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That was a close second round but I would say that Lance King will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

King wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Santos looks for a takedown but King sprawls well.
King fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
King avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
King tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

King closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - King lands in his opponent's guard.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Santos looking for a sweep. Not yet Santos, not yet.
King makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Santos is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst King is controlling him.
Santos is trying to control the position but King postures up.
King not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
King scores with a spinning back kick!
King misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Lance King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Lance King is winning the standup battle so far.
Santos misses with a takedown attempt - King sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Lance King has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Santos.
Santos circles away from the clinch attempt.

King has taken the fight to the clinch.
Santos is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

King pulls guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
King looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
King is pulling down on Santos's head. It's preventing any offense from Santos, at least for the moment.

Lance King overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Santos stands and steps away. King gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

King tries to sprawl but Santos drives through with a takedown into half guard.
King is trying to control but can't.
Santos controlling the action here.
Santos is nestled in close to King, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

King actively working from the bottom here.
Juan Santos has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Lance King is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Santos is looking for a kimura here.

Lance King showed his dominance in that final round.
Well King has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
