Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lyndon Montgomery (ranked 24783 p4p, 0 weight class) and Arveids Skabene (ranked 4698 p4p, 0 weight class). Arveids Skabene will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lyndon Montgomery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Arveids Skabene!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Patrick Alders and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Skabene tries to clinch but Montgomery moves away

so Montgomery counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Skabene is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Montgomery is stalling in the full guard.
Montgomery with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Montgomery will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Montgomery wants to get up but he can't break Skabene's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Skabene looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Montgomery is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Montgomery wanted to stand there but Skabene had control of the position.

Skabene wants to get back to his feet but Montgomery passes into half guard.

Skabene has a closed guard, preventing Montgomery from standing up.

Montgomery got a little sloppy there for a moment and Skabene has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Montgomery has managed to get both his arms back between Skabene's legs - danger averted.

Skabene throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Montgomery tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Skabene is in Montgomery's guard.

Skabene is looking to stand up but Montgomery won't let him.

Montgomery tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Skabene defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Montgomery.

Montgomery closes the distance and pushes Skabene back into the cage.

Skabene manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

That was a close round but I would say that Lyndon Montgomery will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Skabene clinches up with Montgomery and pushes him back against the cage.
Skabene gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Montgomery.
Montgomery is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Skabene to keep the fight standing.
Skabene with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.


It looks like Lyndon Montgomery has been cut.
Skabene lands a left hand.
Montgomery tries to break free but Skabene pushes him back against the cage.

Skabene darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Montgomery is trying to escape back to his feet but Skabene uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Montgomery is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Skabene asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Skabene is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Skabene thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Montgomery looks to move to half guard but instead Skabene has passed into mount! Damn!
Skabene throwing strikes but Montgomery uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Montgomery keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Montgomery is looking for a sweep. Skabene is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Skabene not doing much here.
Montgomery makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Montgomery.

Skabene advances position into side control!
Montgomery wants to control but Skabene postures up.
Montgomery tries to improve position but can't.
Montgomery tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Montgomery is working to get back to half guard.
Skabene controlling the position easily from mount.
Montgomery sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Skabene is keen to just control but Montgomery is a slippery customer.
Montgomery is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Montgomery regains full guard. Nicely done.
Montgomery manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Skabene manages to get himself to full guard.

Montgomery is stalling in the full guard.
Skabene lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Skabene wants to pass the guard but Montgomery is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arveids Skabene showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Skabene lands a brutal head kick. Montgomery looks out on his feet and Skabene throws more strikes until the ref is forced to stop the fight!
