Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Piet Smit (ranked 1694 p4p, 223 weight class) and Mats Sundin (ranked 2216 p4p, 275 weight class). Smit comes to the cage accompanied by Baby Got Back. Sundin has chosen Hej Monika as his entrance music. Piet Smit has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Piet Smit!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mats Sundin!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smit bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Sundin is looking to regain half guard here but Smit keeps moving and retains side control.

Smit tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smit working the ground and pound but Sundin is defending the strikes.

Smit working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Smit wants to control but Sundin is keeping him busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smit feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Smit in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Sundin has a closed guard, preventing Smit from standing up.
Smit trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Smit sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sundin's guard.

Sundin is controlling Smit's trapped leg to prevent Smit from advancing to side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Sundin is defending against the submission attempts here by Smit.

Smit is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sundin is just riding it out for now. Smit eventually gives up the hold.

Smit fails to land with a series of punches.
We've been told by Smit's head coaches at Hardpunch (13 Elite / 1000$ that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Sundin tries to keep at a distance but Smit has taken the fight into the clinch.

Smit wants the takedown. Sundin is fighting it off but Smit persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Sundin's guard against the cage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sundin can do anything to dispel that myth.
Smit with a flurry of punches that miss.
Smit throwing strikes but missing.
Smit trying to control the position from guard on top but Sundin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sundin has a closed guard, preventing Smit from standing up.

Smit throws an elbow that misses. Sundin uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Smit's guard. Nice move by Sundin!

Sundin should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Smit tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Smit is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sundin can do to turn this around?

Smit had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sundin defends it easily.

Still in half guard, Sundin seems content to control.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Sundin in particular looking to stall.
Mats Sundin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Piet Smit is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
