PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Angel Gutierrez (ranked 3396 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kris Kobbler (ranked 4623 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Angel Gutierrez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Kris Kobbler! The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Lou da Vinci and Jonathan Paton.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kobbler throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Kobbler walks into a left hand.

It looks like Kris Kobbler has been cut. Gutierrez throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Gutierrez lands a glancing blow to the side of Kobbler's head. Gutierrez lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Gutierrez misses with the combination.
Gutierrez throws a nice looking combination but Kobbler bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Kobbler throws a counter combo. No joy there for Gutierrez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gutierrez scores with a nice strike. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gutierrez fails to land with a series of punches.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Kobbler has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Kobbler gets a double leg takedown into Gutierrez's guard. Kobbler stops Gutierrez from standing up. Gutierrez on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gutierrez tries to get out of the position. Kobbler is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Kobbler wants to control from the top but Gutierrez keeps moving.
Gutierrez pushes Kobbler off and gets back to his feet.
Gutierrez misses with a wild combination.
Gutierrez looks to land a combination but Kobbler avoids it well. Gutierrez misses with a two punch combination.
Gutierrez lands with an uppercut that bounces Kobbler off the cage and back into range.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Kobbler. Gutierrez is breathing heavily. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Gutierrez is trying to buck Kobbler off. Kobbler wants to control but Gutierrez is keeping him busy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gutierrez wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
 That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kobbler tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Gutierrez tries to escape but Kobbler is in control. Kobbler working the body and head with strikes. Gutierrez wants to get back to his feet but Kobbler drags him back down. Kobbler is putting a hurting on Gutierrez here, landing some big shots from side control. Kobbler has knee on belly and moves into mount. Kobbler controlling the pace for now.
 That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gutierrez bucks up and throws Kobbler to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape! Gutierrez lands with a right hand. Gutierrez tests Kobbler's chin there with a solid looking shot. No joy there for Gutierrez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gutierrez jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Kobbler fails with the takedown. Gutierrez swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Gutierrez lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Kobbler is rocked! Gutierrez lands a big right hook! Kobbler looks hurt but is still standing! Gutierrez lands a left jab and another right hook! This time Kobbler falls down and Gutierrez dives in with a huge hammer fist! Kobbler's eyes roll back! The referee calls for the bell and Gutierrez runs up the cage to celebrate with his fans!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Angel Gutierrez!
