PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Honda Kikunojo (ranked 24853 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Sousa (ranked 7415 p4p, 594 weight class). Sousa has chosen Thunderstruck as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Honda Kikunojo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Chris Sousa!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Steven Brown and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kikunojo takes the fight into the clinch.
Sousa tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
A short left from Sousa.
Sousa lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
Sousa crunches a lovely knee into Kikunojo's ribcage.

Sousa has picked Kikunojo up - he's going for a ride! Sousa dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Sousa trying to pass the guard but Kikunojo defending well.
Kikunojo is pressing down on Sousa's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Sousa looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Sousa is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kikunojo is just riding it out for now. Sousa eventually gives up the hold.

Sousa is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kikunojo defends it well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kikunojo manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Sousa engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Sousa drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kikunojo manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sousa has Kikunojo in his guard.

Sousa manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kikunojo manages to get himself to full guard.

Kikunojo not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Kikunojo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sousa is aware though and is defending well.
Kikunojo is trying to control the position but Sousa postures up.

Kikunojo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sousa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sousa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sousa has gone for a leg lock! Kikunojo slips out almost immediately though and dives into Sousa's guard.

A close round but Chris Sousa will probably get the nod.
That's time! Kikunojo's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Kikunojo shoots in looking for a takedown but Sousa manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kikunojo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Kikunojo shoots in but Sousa avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sousa has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Kikunojo is landing a low percentage of strikes.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sousa prevents Kikunojo from improving his position.
Kikunojo has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Sousa is working away from the top position though.
Kikunojo is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Kikunojo on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Well, if Sousa is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Sousa tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sousa has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Chris Sousa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sousa scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kikunojo lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Sousa closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kikunojo quickly recovers to half guard.

You can see the frustration on Kikunojo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Sousa is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Kikunojo is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
