PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Fedor Mazepin (ranked 2572 p4p, 281 weight class) and Damian Dyatlov (ranked 3592 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Mazepin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Damian Dyatlov!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Konstantin Menshow and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dyatlov tries to sprawl but Mazepin drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Dyatlov is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Mazepin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Mazepin's back!
Dyatlov doesn't have the hooks in and Mazepin manages to turn into his guard.

Dyatlov should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Dyatlov shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mazepin manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dyatlov is pushing down on Mazepin's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mazepin is fighting to maintain full guard but Dyatlov has managed to sneak the leg through.

Dyatlov seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mazepin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Dyatlov working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Dyatlov is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Mazepin has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Dyatlov can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Dyatlov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mazepin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dyatlov has managed to get both his arms back between Mazepin's legs - danger averted.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mazepin has momentary wrist control but Dyatlov slips an elbow through the middle.

You can see the frustration on Mazepin's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Dyatlov remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The referee warns Mazepin that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Damian Dyatlov is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Dyatlov takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Well Dyatlov has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Damian Dyatlov decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
