PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Sam Hunter (ranked 7063 p4p, 269 weight class) and Gold Man (ranked 24734 p4p, 288 weight class). Sam Hunter has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam Hunter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gold Man!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Steve Erwin and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Man goes for a double leg but Hunter avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Hunter continues to drive forward.
Man shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hunter sprawls well. Hunter wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Man gets slowly back to his feet.
It appears Hunter was looking to counter with a kick there.
Hunter looks to land a combination but Man avoids it well.

Man takes the fight into the clinch.

Hunter manages to break the clinch.

Hunter gets caught flat footed, as Man shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Man should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Hunter controlling Man's posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hunter wants to control but Man passes easily into half guard.
Hunter pushes Man off looking to stand but Man dives back in and keeps control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hunter is pressing down on Man's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Man controlling from the top position.
Hunter keeping moving, preventing Man from controlling successfully.
Hunter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Hunter is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Man avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hunter wants to hit a switch here but Man passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Hunter there!
Man takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Poor strikes thrown by Man there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hunter tries to hold on but Man pushes him away.
Man tries to control but Hunter wriggling away.
Hunter looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

Hunter is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Man off. It looks like it's working - Man slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Hunter displaying calm under pressure there.

Hunter gets a double leg takedown into Man's guard.
Man is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Hunter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Man swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hunter postures up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Man is on top in guard.

Man advances position into side control!
Man trying to control the position but Hunter is working away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hunter is trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Gold Man will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Hunter gets a double leg takedown into Man's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hunter stays in close to Man's body and controls the position.

Hunter stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Man throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hunter's waist but Hunter gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Man off to one side.

Hunter gets caught flat footed, as Man shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Hunter really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Man trying to control but Hunter is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Man might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hunter haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Man is looking to work some ground and pound but Hunter has wrist control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hunter is looking to sweep but instead, Man has passed into half guard.
Man is trying to control. Hunter wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Man lands a nice short elbow.
Man trying to control from half guard but Hunter is working away.
Hunter wants to control but Man is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Hunter is pressing down on Man's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Hunter is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Man presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Hunter blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Hunter has clasped his hands together around Man's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Man bucks up and tries to throw Hunter off but instead Hunter has got his back!

Hunter seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Man's chin but Man turns very nicely into Hunter's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Man.

Man gets to his feet - Hunter follows without any prompting.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Man throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hunter's waist but Hunter gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Man off to one side.

Hunter scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Man pushes Hunter off but Hunter dives into side control.
Man is not content to let Hunter control the position.
Hunter working away.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Hunter decides to stand up, so the ref orders Man to his feet.

Hunter fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Man, pushing him back against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stalling in the clinch from Hunter.

Hunter has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Man clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Man trying to control the action but Hunter just sinks the hooks in.
Hunter has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Man's body.
Man wants to escape the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sam Hunter will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Hunter takes the fight into the clinch.

Hunter ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hunter no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Hunter will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hunter's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Hunter bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Man's guard.

Hunter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Man on the ground.
Man looking to control.

Man looking for a guillotine here but Hunter defends easily.
Man wants to stand but Hunter is controlling the position.

Man has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Hunter should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Man has tightened it up now! Hunter should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Gold Man!
