Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Askren (ranked 364 p4p, 53 weight class) and Elvis Presley (ranked 1371 p4p, 179 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Matt Askren!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Elvis Presley!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Colin Fotheringham and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Presley tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Presley tries to close the distance and clinch up but Askren swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Askren connects with the punch.
Askren looks to score with a jab to the body but Presley is just out of range.
Askren fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Presley thows a leg kick but Askren checks it

and Askren counters with a nice double leg into guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Presley has his hands on Askren's head, controlling the position.
Askren passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Askren lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Askren tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Askren has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Askren has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Askren is taking a breather. Presley says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Askren seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Askren is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Presley sees it coming and defends easily.
Presley won't allow Askren to pass to mount.
Askren thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Presley's head.
Presley has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Askren is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Presley wants to control but Askren is keeping busy.
Presley is staying active underneath Askren, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Askren tries to pass to full mount but Presley defends it.
Askren prevents Presley from improving his position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Presley is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Askren stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Askren takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Askren lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Presley is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Askren takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Askren struggles to land a body shot inside as Presley controls his hands.
Askren is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Presley can do to turn this around?
The referee is keeping an eye on Askren - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Askren is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Presley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Askren seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Presley does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Presley is the more experienced fighter here and he's going to need to draw on some of that experience if he's going to pull this one out the bag.

Well Askren has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Matt Askren made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
