The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Petrone shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Van Dijk but Van Dijk pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Van Dijk cracks the inside of Petrone's front leg.
Petrone fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nicholas Petrone. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Van Dijk counters with a three punch combo that has Petrone backing up. Petrone nods at Van Dijk to acknowledge the strikes.
Petrone walks straight into a right hand from Van Dijk - that's dropped him! Van Dijk jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Petrone from any more punishment! Petrone complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.

In his post fight interview, Virgil Van Dijk started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
