PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between James Bond (ranked 25096 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iron Man (ranked 5684 p4p, 0 weight class). Iron Man has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with James Bond's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Bond!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Iron Man!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Man fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A counter left hand to the body from Bond misses its target.
Man closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bond circles away.
Bond is looking to counter the offense by Man and move into the clinch.
Bond tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Man paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Bond feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bond thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Man trying to keep a closed guard but Bond is proving a slippery customer.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bond accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bond trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bond slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Bond looking to sit in guard and control but Man gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


That's one minute gone in the round.
Man with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Bond is pulling down on Man's head to control his posture.
Bond is trying to keep Man in close.
Man seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Bond not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Bond working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Man doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Man manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Man tries to free his leg and advance position but Bond is retaining full guard.
Bond throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bond tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Man defends well and Bond ends up having to push Man into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Man throws a counter combo.
Bond is looking to clinch but Man is avoiding it.
Man lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Sloppy strikes from Man. Those never looked like landing.
Bond is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Man.
Man moves in looking to clinch but Bond pushes him off.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bond stuffs the takedown attempt from Man. Man gets slowly back to his feet.
James Bond has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Iron Man.

Man shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Man was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Bond is breathing heavily.
Man is chipping away with strikes.
Bond tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Man wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Man tries to move into full mount but can't pass Bond's legs.
Bond wants to get back to his feet but Man drags him back down.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Man creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Man is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Bond's shoulder. That is not cool.
Bond could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bond can't do much from the bottom here.

Bond wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Man has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Bond's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Bond is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Iron Man!
