Coming up we have a featherweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Dado Mata (ranked 708 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Ward (ranked 3671 p4p, 0 weight class). Mata kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is 和楽器バンド / 千本桜. Dado Mata had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 10 losses; Dado Mata! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 6 wins and 9 losses; Mr Ward!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, William Gold and Colin Fotheringham.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Mata shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Mata showed some decent athleticism there.

Ward wants to get back to full guard.
Mata trying to control from half guard but Ward is working away.
Ward moves into full guard.
Ward can't keep his opponent in guard - Mata advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mata wants to work for an arm triangle but Ward is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Mata stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ward swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ward escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mata gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ward moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Mata avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Ward regains full guard. Nicely done.

Ward has gone for a leg lock! Mata slips out almost immediately though and dives into Ward's guard.

Ward is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ward looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Ward is trying to control the action in half guard but Mata is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Mata is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ward pulls his head out easily.

Ward is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Mata reverses the position - he's now on top in Ward's guard.

Ward is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mata is aware though and is defending well.
Mata is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ward has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Mata got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ward has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mata has managed to get both his arms back between Ward's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mata passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Ward!

Mata takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Ward keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Ward is trying to escape the mount but Mata keeps good control and instead manages to take Ward's back.

Ward looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Mata seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Ward breaks Mata's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

Ward had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mata defends it easily.

Mata is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ward is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ward is on top in guard.
