The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Damien Edna and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Star shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ruiz defends it nicely.
Ruiz swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ruiz tries a head kick but it misses.
Star dives in for a single leg takedown but Ruiz sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Star closes the distance and clinches.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Star lands with a nice combination. Ruiz backs away looking to recover.
Ruiz could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Star tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ruiz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Star somewhat.

Ruiz went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Ruiz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Star tries to avoid it but Ruiz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Star to the ground. Star escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Star sneaks out the side door and pushes Ruiz away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Ruiz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Star sprawls well. Star wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ruiz gets slowly back to his feet.

That was a close second round but I would say that Maximo Ruiz will probably get the nod.

Star postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Ruiz is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Star, into his guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ruiz postures up.
Danny Star has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ruiz passes into half guard under a barage of strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Star is trying to get back to full guard.

Ruiz is looking for a kimura but Star is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ruiz to get the leverage.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Danny Star.
I think Star has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
