PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kazuo Kiriyama (ranked 5978 p4p, 526 weight class) and Jack Spriggins (ranked 3137 p4p, 340 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kazuo Kiriyama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jack Spriggins!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Darius Henderson and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Spriggins clinches up with Kiriyama and pushes him back against the cage.

Spriggins's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kiriyama throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Spriggins's waist but Spriggins gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kiriyama off to one side.
Spriggins let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Kiriyama looks for a takedown but Spriggins sprawls well.

Spriggins has closed the distance and engaged Kiriyama in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Spriggins escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Spriggins closes the distance and pushes Kiriyama back into the cage.
Spriggins prevents a takedown attempt there.

Spriggins stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Spriggins wants it to stay on the feet.

Spriggins tries to bum rush Kiriyama with a series of wild strikes but Kiriyama uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Spriggins lands an elbow that stopped Kiriyama in his tracks for a moment.

Spriggins manages to break the clinch.
Kiriyama takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Spriggins throws a nice looking combination but Kiriyama bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Kiriyama uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Spriggins.

Spriggins is looking to escape.

Kiriyama is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Spriggins doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kiriyama.
Spriggins wants to get back to his feet.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Kiriyama's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Spriggins lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Spriggins has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kiriyama walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Nice uppercut lands for Spriggins. That snapped Kiriyama's head back.

Kiriyama dives in and grabs Spriggins's left leg, looking for a takedown. Spriggins pushes down on Kiriyama's head and hops out.

Kiriyama changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Spriggins tries to avoid it but Kiriyama manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Spriggins to the ground. Spriggins escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Spriggins throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kiriyama feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Spriggins throws a series of punches but Kiriyama moves out of range.
Spriggins stalks Kiriyama and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Kiriyama's face. Kiriyama staggers backwards, shaken.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Spriggins swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Kiriyama.
Kiriyama shoots in for a takedown but Spriggins shows good takedown defense.

Spriggins pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Spriggins throws a right and a left that both miss.
We've been informed that Spriggins has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Spriggins pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kiriyama appears to be looking for a big counter.
Jack Spriggins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Spriggins.
Kiriyama shoots for a double leg takedown but Spriggins sprawls well. He's pushed Kiriyama's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kiriyama's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Spriggins connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Kiriyama scrambles back to his feet.
Kiriyama has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Spriggins.

Spriggins moves into range and clinches up with Kiriyama.

Spriggins manages to break the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Spriggins, as that shot connected.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Spriggins showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Kiriyama is trying to trip Spriggins. He has hold of a leg but Spriggins is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Kiriyama persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Spriggins is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Kiriyama presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Kiriyama shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Spriggins wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Kiriyama dives in and grabs Spriggins's left leg, looking for a takedown. Spriggins pushes down on Kiriyama's head and hops out.
No luck for Kiriyama with that takedown attempt.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Spriggins moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Kiriyama feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kazuo Kiriyama overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kiriyama content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Kazuo Kiriyama has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Kiriyama in side control, working for a kimura. He's got hold of an arm and he's torquing it... Spriggins is tapping! That's the end of the fight!
