Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dick Avery (ranked 8132 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rex McDaniels (ranked 5465 p4p, 0 weight class). McDaniels has chosen Sledgehammer as his entrance music. Rex McDaniels has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dick Avery!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rex McDaniels!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Reed Andrews and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McDaniels moves into the clinch.
Avery is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. McDaniels is defending well for now.
Avery is trying to pull guard but McDaniels has him pressed against the cage.

Avery is fighting off a takedown attempt but McDaniels is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Avery to the mat. Avery regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Avery utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Avery is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
McDaniels prevents Avery from getting back to his feet.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as McDaniels accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McDaniels tries to free his leg and advance position but Avery is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McDaniels controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Avery keeping moving, preventing McDaniels from controlling successfully.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

McDaniels stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Avery tries to bum rush McDaniels with a series of wild strikes but McDaniels uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Avery looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

McDaniels closes the distance and pushes Avery back into the cage.

The referee calls for Avery to work.
Avery tries to pull guard but McDaniels won't allow it.
McDaniels can't break the clinch.

McDaniels gets in close and instigates a clinch.

McDaniels wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Avery tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. McDaniels just stands there and leans against the cage.

McDaniels seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Avery trying to control the position from guard on top but McDaniels is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
McDaniels wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
McDaniels is trying to keep Avery in close.
McDaniels is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Avery is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McDaniels has his hands on Avery's head, controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Avery fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but McDaniels avoids it really well and circles away.

McDaniels closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Avery quickly recovers to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Avery has a hand on McDaniels's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. McDaniels takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Avery is controlling an arm, preventing McDaniels from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Avery counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Avery.
Avery is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. McDaniels is defending well for now.
Avery misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from McDaniels.
McDaniels avoids a wild elbow strike from Avery.
Avery trying to stall but McDaniels improves his position.

McDaniels pulls Avery into guard.

McDaniels had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Avery defends it easily.
McDaniels is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Avery not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for McDaniels. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

McDaniels is pulling down on Avery's head. It's preventing any offense from Avery, at least for the moment.
McDaniels is trying to keep Avery in close.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Avery could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

McDaniels clinches.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Avery.
McDaniels wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Avery has him pressed against the cage.

Avery breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

McDaniels bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Avery is trying to buck McDaniels off.
Avery is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked McDaniels off and has taken his back!
McDaniels wants to control his opponent's hands but Avery gets his hands free.
McDaniels is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Avery struggling to keep hold of the position.
Avery controlling well, preventing McDaniels from escaping the position.

Avery working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.

Avery has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, McDaniels has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
McDaniels tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Avery throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for McDaniels because Avery loaded up on that one.

McDaniels tries to hold on but Avery postures up.
McDaniels bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
McDaniels postures up in Avery's guard and throws a big left but Avery blocks it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
McDaniels trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Rex McDaniels has got the better of the ground game so far.

McDaniels decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Avery, up you get!

McDaniels has Avery up against the cage in a clinch.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dick Avery will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

McDaniels manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Avery might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

McDaniels seems keen to control Avery's posture.

McDaniels has his foot on Avery's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Avery works his way back into a safe position though.

McDaniels is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Avery has gone for a leg lock! McDaniels slips out almost immediately though and dives into Avery's guard.

Avery looking to hit a scissor sweep but McDaniels is one step ahead there.
McDaniels is stalling in the full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Avery will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Avery is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

McDaniels moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

McDaniels working a defensive guard but Avery manages to pass into side control anyway.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McDaniels is looking to reverse the position.
McDaniels struggling a bit here.
McDaniels manages to work his way to half guard, despite Avery's best efforts.
McDaniels is trying to control but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
McDaniels might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Avery haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

McDaniels shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Avery's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rex McDaniels comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think McDaniels has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
