Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Connor Joieson (ranked 3129 p4p, 161 weight class) and Scott Page (ranked 2659 p4p, 138 weight class). Page has chosen Suspicious Minds as his entrance music. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Connor Joieson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Scott Page!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joieson slips a jab and a cross from Page.

Page clinches with his opponent.

Page tightens his grip and picks Joieson up, before dumping him to the ground. Joieson manages to land in guard.

Joieson has an active guard here but Page has managed to pass into half guard.
Page sitting and controlling from the half guard.
It looks like Page might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Page stalling away here and it's allowed Joieson to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Page stands and steps away. Joieson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Page throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Joieson's waist but Joieson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Page off to one side.
Joieson fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Page avoids it really well and circles away.

Joieson gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Joieson kicks Page off and gets to his feet.

Page manages to escape and get back to his feet!

This has been an exciting period of action!

Page takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

Page gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Joieson has Page pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Page manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

I was talking to Joieson's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Joieson has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Page after a bit of a struggle.
Page goes for a takedown attempt but Joieson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Page throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Nice takedown defense from Page. No joy for Joieson on that attempt.

Page has Joieson up against the cage in a clinch.
Joieson tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Page smiles and moves away.

Page fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Joieson, pushing him back against the cage.
Page is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Joieson tries to pull guard but Page won't allow it.
Joieson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Page pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Joieson wants a takedown.
Page stalling.

Page gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Joieson regains guard.
Page sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Joieson trying to keep a closed guard but Page is proving a slippery customer.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Page trying to control but Joieson is working from the bottom.
Joieson is trying to keep Page in close.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Page fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Page gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Joieson to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Page pushes Joieson off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Joieson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Page's half guard.

Page manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Joieson keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Page. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Page stops a takedown attempt from Joieson.

Page decides to pull guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Page seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Joieson isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Page stacks Joieson on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Page!

Page just content to control the position.
Page cracks Joieson with a big right hand but Joieson just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Joieson swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Page is on top in guard.

Page is in close to Joieson's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Joieson has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Page has passed into side control.

Well Page has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
