Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kurt Angle!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Daniels pushes Angle up against the cage in a clinch.
Angle drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Angle has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Daniels after a bit of a struggle.
Our sources have told us that Daniels has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight.

Shawn Daniels has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kurt Angle.
Daniels stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Daniels tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Angle avoids it.
Daniels throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Angle is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Daniels can't fight it off and eventually Angle manages to take the fight to the floor. Daniels looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Angle is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Daniels wants to stand and escape but Angle is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Daniels throws a series of punches but Angle avoids them all with ease.

Angle tightens his grip and picks Daniels up, before dumping him to the ground. Daniels manages to land in guard.

Daniels manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Daniels pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Daniels throws a series of punches but Angle avoids them all with ease.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Angle! But no joy.
Daniels throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Angle avoids a punch combination nicely.

Daniels fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Angle, pushing him back against the cage.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Daniels shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Angle eats them both and turns towards Daniels to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.


It looks like Kurt Angle has been cut.
Daniels is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Angle can do to turn this around?

Daniels instigates a clinch.
Daniels prevents the takedown attempt.
Daniels is pressed up against the cage. Angle has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Daniels down to the mat. Daniels avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Daniels shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Daniels was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Angle wants to control but Daniels postures up.
Daniels wants to lay and pray for a moment but Angle keeps working.

Angle is breathing heavily.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Daniels fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Angle throws a big counter head kick but Daniels avoids it with no problem.

Daniels throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Daniels throws a head kick that misses.
Angle lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
No joy there for Daniels, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Daniels moves into the clinch successfully.
Angle jumps guard but Daniels stands there with Angle around his waist. Angle gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Daniels bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Daniels stands up and beckons Angle to his feet.
Daniels throws a series of punches but Angle avoids them all with ease.
Angle is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.
Daniels tries a head kick but it misses.
A big right from Daniels misses.
Angle looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Daniels scores with the left hand. Angle knows he should have avoided that one.
Daniels will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Angle tries to keep at a distance but Daniels has taken the fight into the clinch.
Angle goes for a takedown attempt but Daniels pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Angle drives through with a takedown into Daniels's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Angle drops back looking for a leg! Daniels is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Daniels manages to kick Angle off! Angle jumps back into Daniels's guard.

Angle drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Angle jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Angle is fighting to break Daniels's control of his arms but Daniels is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Daniels wants to stand and escape but Angle is having none of it.
Daniels knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Angle on the ground.

Angle drops back looking for a leg! Daniels is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Daniels manages to kick Angle off! Angle jumps back into Daniels's guard.

Angle changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Daniels tries to avoid it but Angle manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Daniels to the ground. Daniels escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Daniels looks to land a combination. Angle sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Daniels has taken the fight to the clinch.
Angle fails to pull guard.

Angle tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Daniels smiles and moves away.

Angle unleashes a big counter combination but Daniels bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Angle takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Daniels throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Angle stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Angle wants it to stay on the feet.
Despite the aggression on Angle's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

Daniels throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Angle decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Daniels manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Angle keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
Daniels throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

Daniels works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Daniels got a little sloppy there for a moment and Angle has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Daniels has managed to get both his arms back between Angle's legs - danger averted.

Angle passes Daniels's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Well Daniels has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Shawn Daniels opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
