PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Robert Hongo (ranked 5996 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Tremblay (ranked 7785 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Robert Hongo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kevin Tremblay!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tremblay shoots for a double leg takedown but Hongo sprawls well. He's pushed Tremblay's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hongo appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Tremblay looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Tremblay closes the distance and clinches.
Hongo is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Tremblay jumps guard but Hongo stands there with Tremblay around his waist. Tremblay gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Tremblay gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hongo.
Hongo tries to break the clinch but Tremblay is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hongo is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Tremblay tries to pull guard but Hongo won't allow it.
Robert Hongo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin Tremblay.

Hongo gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Hongo has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Tremblay throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Hongo stays in close to Tremblay's body and controls the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hongo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Further stalling from Hongo.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kevin Tremblay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tremblay throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Tremblay misses with the combination.
Hongo is looking for a counter combo.
Tremblay shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Hongo counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hongo controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Hongo is stinking the place up with his stalling.
Hongo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Hongo gets to his feet. Tremblay looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Tremblay tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hongo swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Tremblay tries to clinch but Hongo moves out of range.
Hongo feinted with a counter takedown.
Tremblay shoots and misses

and Hongo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Tremblay won't be happy with that.

Tremblay is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Tremblay fails with a takedown attempt.
It looked like Hongo was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Hongo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Tremblay.
Tremblay shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hongo as he jumps to the side.
Hongo drops down looking for a counter takedown but Tremblay sprawls and moves away.
Robert Hongo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kevin Tremblay.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Hongo counters with a takedown into side control.
Tremblay is breathing heavily.
Hongo is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Tremblay will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Tremblay gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Hongo tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Hongo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Tremblay for as long as he can get away with.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hongo continues to stall.

Hongo stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Tremblay misses with a head kick.
Tremblay throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hongo's waist but Hongo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tremblay off to one side.
Tremblay just manages to avoid a counter high kick fromHongo.

Robert Hongo dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Tremblay tries to clinch up but Hongo circles away and keeps his distance.
Hongo tries to counter with a takedown but Tremblay is quick to defend against it.

and Hongo counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Tremblay tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Hongo manages to move to mount!

Tremblay takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Tremblay has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Hongo is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
More hug and hope from Hongo.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Robert Hongo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Hongo.
Tremblay is trying to stand back up.
Hongo has good solid back control here.

Hongo continues to hold on tight.

Robert Hongo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hongo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
