The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valdez misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Chrystler counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Chrystler shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Valdez napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Valdez is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Valdez dodges the ground and pound from Chrystler.
Valdez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chrystler on the ground.
Chrystler lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chrystler throws an elbow but Valdez slips to the side and avoids it well.
Valdez parries the strikes from Chrystler easily there. Chrystler is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Valdez to escape.

Valdez takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Valdez tries to escape but Chrystler is in control.

Chrystler lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Chrystler has hold of Valdez's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Valdez manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Chrystler has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Valdez is trying to stand but he's just given Chrystler his back.
