And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Diluka Mendis!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silverback throws a head kick that misses.
Mendis looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Silverback misses with a combination
and Mendis connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Nice shot lands for Mendis.
Silverback walks into a straight right hand from Mendis.


Silverback is rocked!
Mendis takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Oh Silverback is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Mendis swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Silverback moves in looking to clinch but Mendis pushes him off.
Mendis throws a right and a left that both miss.
Silverback attempts a counter takedown but Mendis avoids it well and moves away.
Mendis throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Mendis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Silverback was well out of range. Poor timing from Mendis.

Silverback shoots in but Mendis avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Silverback looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mendis is fending him off so far but Silverback persists. Nope, Mendis circles away and we're back to standing.

Mendis swings for the body but Silverback moves out of range.
Silverback tries to counter by clinching up but Mendis breaks away and moves out of range.

and Mendis counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Mendis looks to throw the jab but Silverback is out of range.
Mendis moves out of range as Silverback throws a body kick.
Mendis misses with a few strikes there.
Silverback thinks about countering with a head kick.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Silverback shoots for a double leg takedown but Mendis sprawls well. He's pushed Silverback's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Diluka Mendis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Mendis connects with a looping right hand.
Mendis stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mendis wants it to stay on the feet.
Mendis lands with a big right hook that stumbles Silverback - he's out on his feet here! Mendis follows up with another monster hook that separates Silverback from consciousness! Silverback falls, almost in slow motion to the canvas! Mendis stands and admires his work as the crowd go wild.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Diluka Mendis!
Diluka Mendis decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
