Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jared Meyer (ranked 23825 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitor Souza (ranked 5572 p4p, 0 weight class). Vitor Souza will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Edson Gomes and Thiago Cunha.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Meyer fails to land the takedown.
Souza tries to counter with a clinch but Meyer shakes him off and moves away.

Souza darts in and clinches Meyer up against the cage.
Souza drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Meyer gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Souza is pushing Meyer up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Souza tries to break the clinch but Meyer is controlling the position.

Meyer pulls Souza into guard.
Souza throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Meyer is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Meyer knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Souza on the ground.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Souza stands up from Meyer's guard - Souza perhaps looking for a knockout.

Souza shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Souza showed some decent athleticism there.

Meyer won't allow Souza to pass to mount.
Souza is keen to just control but Meyer is a slippery customer.
Souza might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Meyer haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Souza is looking to advance position but Meyer won't allow it.
Souza prevents Meyer from standing back up.

Souza wants to take a breather but Meyer is having none of it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Meyer shoots in but Souza avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Souza connects with a solid leg kick.

Souza moves into range and clinches up with Meyer.
Meyer could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Souza pulls guard effortlessly.
Meyer trying to stand up but can't free himself from Souza's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Souza throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Meyer postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Souza is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Meyer, into his guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A head punch on the inside from Meyer fails to land.
Meyer prevents a takedown attempt there.

Souza goes for a takedown attempt but Meyer pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Meyer shoots in but no luck this time.

Souza wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Meyer has him pressed against the cage.

Meyer tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Souza smiles and moves away.

Souza escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Meyer gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Souza is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Meyer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Meyer darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Souza has one foot on Meyer's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

A head kick from Souza lands but Meyer takes it in his stride.

It looks like Jared Meyer has been cut.
Meyer shoots in but no luck this time.
Meyer shoots in looking for a takedown but Souza manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Meyer's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Souza with the counter takedown but Meyer avoids it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Souza has managed to clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Meyer goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Meyer is pressed up against the cage. Souza has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Meyer down to the mat. Meyer avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Vitor Souza showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well Souza has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
