Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eric Ashton (ranked 221 p4p, 31 weight class) and Dick Army (ranked 858 p4p, 106 weight class). Ashton's entrance music is Zombie Nation. A fine choice. Army has chosen Dick Army as his entrance music. Dick Army acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Eric Ashton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 36 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Dick Army!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ashton bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Nice body punch from Ashton.
Ashton moves in looking to clinch but Army pushes him off.
Ashton throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Ashton thuds his right hand into Army's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Army raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Army scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Army looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Ashton throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Army on the side of the head.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ashton is looking to take a break and control but Army is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Ashton is working for a submission of some sort.
Ashton is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Army is trying to control the position but Ashton postures up.

Ashton has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Ashton pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Army is keeping the position for now.

Ashton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Army swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ashton is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Army throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Ashton is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Army can do to turn this around?

and Ashton decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Army's guard.

Army throws a series of punches but Ashton avoids them all with ease.
The crowd cheers as Ashton lands an impressive looking overhand right. Army doesn't seem phased though.

A looping hook to the body misses from Ashton. Army does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ashton lands a nice hook to Army's body. Army takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Ashton manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Army on his heels. He'll look to pass Army's guard now, I'm sure.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ashton is taking a breather. Army says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ashton is pressing down on Army's thigh, looking to free his foot. Army is holding on for now.
Ashton is working hard here to advance position.
Army tries to kick Ashton off but Ashton keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Ashton performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Eric Ashton.
Well Ashton has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
