PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Andre Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabricio Ruas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Andre Jones has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Andre Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fabricio Ruas!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruas fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ruas tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Ruas ducks under a wild hook from Jones.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Ruas misses with a takedown attempt - Jones sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ruas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jones tries to avoid it but Ruas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jones to the ground. Jones escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ruas is looking to clinch but Jones is avoiding it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ruas turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Ruas fails with a takedown attempt.
Andre Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fabricio Ruas.

Jones throws out a powerful jab.
Jones tries to clinch but Ruas moves away
and Ruas counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Ruas wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.

Jones wants to stand and escape but Ruas is having none of it.
Ruas stays in close to Jones's body and controls the position.
Jones is adopting a defensive guard.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Ruas from controlling successfully.

Ruas drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ruas jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Jones is breathing heavily.

Jones on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jones tries to get out of the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ruas looking to pass the guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Jones tries to clinch but Ruas moves out of range.
Jones throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ruas tries for a takedown but Jones sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jones looking to land some kicks to the body here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Fabricio Ruas will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Horrible takedown by Ruas or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad.
Ruas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Jones throws a hook but Ruas blocks it.
Jones looks to land a right hand but Ruas moved out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ruas shoots in and bounces Jones off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jones has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ruas is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Jones.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones is letting Ruas control him for a moment.

Ruas is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Jones looks calm but he's in trouble here. Ruas gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Jones is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Ruas lets go of the hold and Jones can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:03 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Fabricio Ruas!
