Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Denker (ranked 25003 p4p, 709 weight class) and Dmitry Gusev (ranked 6207 p4p, 534 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jon Denker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dmitry Gusev!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Viktor Lagutenko and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Denker swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Denker takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Denker tries to clinch up.
No luck for Denker with that takedown attempt.
Denker tries to clinch but Gusev moves out of range.

Gusev shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Gusev working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Denker is looking to improve his position.
Gusev trying to mount his opponent but Denker defends it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gusev content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Denker is looking to escape.
Gusev controlling the action here.
Gusev prevents Denker from improving his position.
Gusev thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Denker's head.
Denker is pressing down on Gusev's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Gusev showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Denker looking to control.
Denker seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Denker looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gusev is one step ahead there.
Denker wants to stand and escape but Gusev is having none of it.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Gusev stays in close to Denker's body and controls the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jon Denker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gusev comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Gusev goes for a double leg but Denker avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Denker continues to drive forward.
Denker tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Gusev manages to circle out of the way.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gusev clinches with his opponent.
Denker is trying to force a seperation but Gusev has the dominant position.

Gusev breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Gusev dives in for a single leg takedown but Denker sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Gusev throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Denker stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Gusev.
Denker tries to improve position but can't.
Gusev trying to control the action but Denker is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Denker is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gusev off and has taken his back!
Denker controls the position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gusev defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Denker's arms.
Denker biding his time, controlling Gusev.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gusev prevents Denker from getting a body triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dmitry Gusev dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Denker shoots in but no luck this time.
Gusev feints the counter takedown.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Denker.
Gusev looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Denker tries to close the distance and clinch but Gusev swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gusev fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Denker is looking to clinch but Gusev is avoiding it.
Gusev doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Gusev tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Denker defends well and Gusev ends up having to push Denker into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Denker looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Denker dives in and scores a takedown into Gusev's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Denker won't allow Gusev to sweep him here.
Denker wants to control from the top but Gusev keeps moving.
Denker stops Gusev from standing up.
Denker tries to free his leg and advance position but Gusev is retaining full guard.
Gusev is controlling Denker's posture.

Denker drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gusev manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Denker has Gusev in his guard.


That's two minutes gone in the round.

Gusev decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Denker, up you get!
Denker wants to clinch.
Gusev displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Denker.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jon Denker. That's going to take a lot out of him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gusev gets the takedown into side control.
Denker seems a little lost for a moment, as Gusev dominates the positioning.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Denker can't do much from the bottom here.
Denker regains half guard.
Gusev content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Denker is trying to get back to full guard.
Denker is trying to control but can't.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Denker gets back to full guard.

Gusev has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Denker to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Gusev is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Denker pulls down on the head and he's put Gusev to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jon Denker!
