PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kamil Reljic (ranked 5308 p4p, 541 weight class) and Halid Magomedov (ranked 24489 p4p, 707 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 15 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Halid Magomedov!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksandr Martynov and Vladimir Khabensky.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reljic shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Magomedov's guard.
Magomedov working a defensive guard but Reljic passes into half guard.
Reljic throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Well, if Reljic is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Magomedov wants to get back to full guard.
Reljic is thwarting Magomedov's attempts to control the position.
Magomedov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Reljic. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reljic wants to pass the guard but Magomedov is defending well.

Reljic wants to work for an arm triangle but Magomedov is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Reljic stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Magomedov to get to his feet.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Magomedov has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Magomedov shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Reljic napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Reljic throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

and Magomedov cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Magomedov looks for a takedown but Reljic sprawls well.
Magomedov lands a front kick.

Magomedov lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Reljic shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Magomedov fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
As Magomedov tries to get set, Reljic tries to push him back and clinch up but Magomedov manages to avoid the attempt.

Magomedov closes the distance and clinches.
Reljic wants to break free but Magomedov has control.

Reljic successfully pulls guard.
Reljic is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Magomedov prevents Reljic from getting back to his feet.

Magomedov stays in close to Reljic's body and controls the position.
Reljic manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Magomedov manages to get himself to full guard.

Magomedov utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Magomedov controls Reljic momentarily but Reljic frees himself.

Reljic shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Magomedov wants to hit a switch here but Reljic passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Magomedov there!

Reljic has control of Magomedov's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Magomedov regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Reljic is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Magomedov is surviving well by controlling Reljic's body position as best he can.
Kamil Reljic overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Magomedov tries to lock up and control but Reljic gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Magomedov tries to improve his position but Reljic has taken his back! Reljic has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Magomedov tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Reljic pushes Magomedov away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
