PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johnson Pace (ranked 5884 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luke Austin (ranked 5882 p4p, 0 weight class). Austin has chosen Fight Song as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pace moves in looking to clinch but Austin pushes him off.
Austin throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

and Pace counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Pace gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Austin.

Pace pulls guard effortlessly.
Austin is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Pace is pulling down on Austin's head to control his posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pace manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Pace jumps guard but Austin turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Austin should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Pace gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Pace darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

Pace fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Austin sprawls well initially but Pace persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Pace winds up and cracks Austin with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Pace lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Pace is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Austin.

Austin misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Austin looks winded!

Austin moves into the clinch successfully.

Pace has picked Austin up - he's going for a ride! Pace dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Pace is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pace is nestled in close to Austin, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Pace is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Austin to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Austin is looking to stand up but Pace isn't so interested in that idea.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Pace scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Pace will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Austin has a closed guard, preventing Pace from standing up.
Pace with a flurry of punches that miss.

Austin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pace doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pace manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Pace postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Pace decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Austin, up you get!
Austin fails with a takedown attempt.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Austin changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pace tries to avoid it but Austin manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pace to the ground. Pace escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Pace tries to close the distance and clinch but Austin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
And Austin tries to counter it with a takedown but Pace pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Austin pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Austin closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Pace manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Pace wants to stand up but Austin is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pace has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Austin gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Pace to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Austin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Austin is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Pace pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Austin has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Pace avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Pace gets control of Austin's arms and successfully pulls guard. Pace will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Austin decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pace, up you get!
Pace fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Austin unleashes a big counter combination but Pace bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Austin finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
As Austin looks to move away, Pace throws a big counter combo but Austin just gets out of the way.

Pace decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Johnson Pace overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Pace thows a huge punch but Austin dodges it nicely.

Johnson Pace is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pace, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
