Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Calvin Bass (ranked 25308 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Preston (ranked 5870 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Calvin Bass!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Andy Preston!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Konstantin Menshow and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Preston has managed to clinch.

Bass pulls Preston into guard.
Bass is trying to control the position but Preston postures up.
Preston trying to control but Bass is working from the bottom.
Preston trying to stand up but can't free himself from Bass's guard.

Preston gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Preston.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bass scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Preston really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bass. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Preston kicks Bass off and gets back to his feet.

Bass scores with a takedown into Preston's guard.
Bass is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Preston is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Preston stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Bass shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Preston pinned against the cage. Preston gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Preston has closed the distance and engaged Bass in a clinch.
Preston tries to land knees in the clinch but Bass avoids the damage to the body.
Preston struggles to land a body shot inside as Bass controls his hands.
Bass tries to work over Preston's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Bass on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Bass really is a fat lump.

Bass looking to stall.
Preston using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Bass has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Bass ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Bass no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Preston trying to control the position from guard on top but Bass is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bass might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Preston wants to stand but Bass has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bass is trying to keep Preston in close.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Preston has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bass is proving hard to escape from.

Bass is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Bass not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Preston controlling from the top position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Bass shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Preston as he avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Bass shoots in and drives through. Preston sprawls well.
Bass moves out of range as Preston throws a body kick.

Oooooh!!! Preston has knocked Bass down with a huge combo! Preston steps away and waves a wobbly Bass back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


It looks like Calvin Bass has been cut.

Bass feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Preston has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Bass lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Preston is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bass defends well.

Preston is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Preston has his foot on Bass's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bass works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Preston's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Preston lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Bass on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Preston has a takedown stuffed.

Preston closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Bass tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Preston smiles and moves away.

Preston tries to pull guard but Bass forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
A bit of stalling here from Preston.
Bass wants to stall.
Bass swings wildly with an uppercut but Preston uses good head movement to avoid it.

Bass tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Preston smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Calvin Bass. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bass shoots in but Preston avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Preston throws out a counter right but Bass avoids it with no problem.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Preston clinches.

Preston manages to break the clinch.
Bass takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Preston lands a front kick.
Bass changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Preston tries to avoid it but Bass manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Preston to the ground. Preston escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Preston gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Andy Preston showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Preston shoots in and drives through. Bass sprawls well.
Preston walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Bass checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
A jab lands there for Preston.
Bass stuffs the takedown attempt from Preston. Preston gets slowly back to his feet.
Preston misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Calvin Bass has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andy Preston.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Andy Preston seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bass drives through with a takedown into guard.

Bass wants to control from the top but Preston keeps moving.

Preston throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Bass escapes and throws Preston's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Preston takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bass lands a nice forearm strike.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bass in side control lands a decent elbow.
Bass scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Preston to see if he's OK.
Preston wants to control but Bass postures up.

Bass is trying to get an arm triangle but Preston is defending well.
Preston wants to get back to his feet but Bass is dominant here and he's now got Preston's back!

Preston is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Preston trying to control the action but Bass just sinks the hooks in.
Bass lands a shot to the body.

Bass is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Preston up.
Preston is trying to stand back up.
Bass is punishing Preston with some ground and pound.
Bass is not going to allow Preston to sit and survive in this position.
Bass is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Preston. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Bass has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Preston has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

And that's the end of the fight!

I think Preston has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
