Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Woo Taehyung Kim!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shamil Saadulaev!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Sandra Marshall and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saadulaev takes a swing at Kim's ribcage but misses.
Saadulaev throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kim tries for a takedown but Saadulaev circles away easily

and Saadulaev counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Kim!
Saadulaev tries to stand but Kim controls the position and pulls Saadulaev into his guard.
Saadulaev postures up.
Saadulaev postures up and lands a big shot to Kim's brow.
Saadulaev chips away with some ground and pound.
Kim bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Saadulaev's guard.

Saadulaev has Kim pulled in close to control his posture.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Saadulaev can do anything to dispel that myth.
Saadulaev is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Saadulaev is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kim working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Saadulaev had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kim defends it easily.
Kim trying to control the position from guard on top but Saadulaev is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Saadulaev pulls Kim in close to prevent any damage.

Kim wants to control from the top but Saadulaev keeps moving.

Saadulaev manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Saadulaev fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Kim checks it well.
Kim fails with an attempt to clinch.
Saadulaev unleashes a big counter combination but Kim bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Saadulaev drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Kim wants to control but Saadulaev passes easily into half guard.
Well, if Saadulaev is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

It looks like Saadulaev might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Saadulaev not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Saadulaev is controlling the pace.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Saadulaev winds up and cracks Kim with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Kim tries to sprawl but Saadulaev drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Saadulaev is thwarting Kim's attempts to control the position.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Saadulaev passes the guard and advances to mount!

Saadulaev has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Kim's face.
Saadulaev postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kim looks a forlorn figure.
Kim is wriggling around trying to escape.
BOOM! Saadulaev connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Saadulaev tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The referee warns Kim that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Saadulaev pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Saadulaev is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kim to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kim shrugs it off.
Saadulaev lands with some strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Saadulaev takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Saadulaev is looking to stand but Kim has his arms wrapped tightly around him, looking to prevent the damage.

Kim looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Saadulaev has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Kim has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Saadulaev is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Kim has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Saadulaev slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kim won't enjoy being in this position. Saadulaev looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Kim is tapping - it's over boys! Saadulaev picks up the submission victory!
