The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Herman keeps the fight on the outside.
Herman appears to be looking for a big counter.

Carter fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Herman to the ground. Carter is now in Herman's guard.
Carter is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Carter's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Carter tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Herman manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Herman went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Carter thuds his right hand into Herman's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Carter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Herman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Carter wants to work for an arm triangle but Herman is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Carter is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Herman knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Carter goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Herman rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Carter's guard! Nice work there by Herman!
Herman lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Herman makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Carter throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Herman tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Carter is in Herman's guard.

Herman manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Herman drops back looking for a leg! Carter is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Carter manages to kick Herman off! Herman jumps back into Carter's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Carter can do anything to dispel that myth.
