With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chase Stevenson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fred Valdez!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Steve Smith and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Valdez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Stevenson circles away.
Stevenson tries for a takedown but Valdez circles away easily
and Valdez counters with a straight right hand.

Valdez clinches up with Stevenson and pushes him back against the cage.
Stevenson lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Valdez tries to pull guard but Stevenson won't allow it.

Valdez pulls Stevenson into guard.
Stevenson with a flurry of punches that miss.
Stevenson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Stevenson gets to his feet. Valdez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stevenson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Valdez to the ground. Stevenson is now in Valdez's guard.

Valdez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Stevenson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Stevenson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Stevenson wants it to stay on the feet.
Valdez throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Stevenson tried to counter with a leg kick but Valdez avoided it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Stevenson wants to work for an arm triangle but Valdez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Valdez has a hand on Stevenson's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Stevenson takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Stevenson is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Valdez has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

Valdez does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Stevenson shoots in for a takedown but Valdez shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Stevenson tries to close the distance and clinch but Valdez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chase Stevenson.
I think Stevenson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
