PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Reinaldo Cox (ranked 25195 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Jenkins (ranked 5854 p4p, 639 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 1, fighting out of London, Reinaldo Cox!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Phil Jenkins !
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Daniel Bishop and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jenkins shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Jenkins seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Jenkins stopping the sweep attempt from Cox.
Jenkins trying to control but Cox is working from the bottom.

Cox could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Cox is trying to control the position but Jenkins postures up.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jenkins stays in close to Cox's body and controls the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Cox dives in for a single leg takedown but Jenkins sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Jenkins looks to land a combination. Cox sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Cox gets caught flat footed, as Jenkins shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Cox wants to get back to his feet but Jenkins is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Jenkins seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Cox has control of Jenkins 's left arm, preventing Jenkins from doing any damage.
Jenkins slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Jenkins trying to control the position from guard on top but Cox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cox wants to sweep but no luck.
Jenkins wants to stand but Cox is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jenkins looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Jenkins is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Cox's half guard.

Cox is staying active underneath Jenkins , who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jenkins postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cox wants to stand but Jenkins is controlling the position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Cox is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
No joy there for Jenkins , who threw a few shots but didn't land.
As Jenkins tries to get set, Cox tries to push him back and clinch up but Jenkins manages to avoid the attempt.
A slapping body kick lands there for Cox.
Jenkins tried to score with a low kick but Cox checks it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Cox wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Phil Jenkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jenkins shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Cox napping and manages to drive through into side control!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Phil Jenkins dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Jenkins looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Jenkins is controlling the pace.
Cox looks like he's trying to stand up.
Jenkins has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cox is not content to let Jenkins control the position.
Cox wants to get back to his feet.
Phil Jenkins has got the better of the ground game so far.

Cox pushes Jenkins off looking to stand but Jenkins dives back in and keeps control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Jenkins shoots in and bounces Cox off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Cox wants to get back to his feet but Jenkins is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Jenkins throws a big elbow that misses.
Jenkins is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Cox might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Jenkins won't allow Cox to sweep him here.
Jenkins tries to free his leg and advance position but Cox is retaining full guard.

Cox lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Cox decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jenkins , up you get!

and Cox counters with a shoot takedown. Jenkins fights it but they end up in guard.

Jenkins manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Jenkins is breathing heavily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cox breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cox avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Jenkins doesn't manage to clinch there - Cox circles away.

Cox gets caught napping as Jenkins dives in and scores a takedown. Cox manages to retain guard.

Cox manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Cox is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Jenkins gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cox slowing the pace effectively.
Cox is trying to break the clinch but Jenkins is controlling him.

Jenkins has Cox pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Jenkins pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Cox tumbling to the mat - Jenkins dives into Cox's guard.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Jenkins kicks off Cox and gets to his feet.

Jenkins feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Cox has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Jenkins is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Phil Jenkins will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Cox shoots in and drives through. Jenkins sprawls well.

Jenkins clinches.

Jenkins jumps guard and drags Cox to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Jenkins tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Cox stands and steps away. Jenkins gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Jenkins takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cox shoots in for a takedown but Jenkins shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Jenkins throws a series of punches but Cox moves out of range.

Jenkins changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cox looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Cox sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Cox controlling the position well.

Cox pushes Jenkins off and gets back to his feet.
Cox shoots in but Jenkins avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Reinaldo Cox. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cox shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jenkins as he jumps to the side.

Jenkins throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cox tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Jenkins is in Cox's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Cox has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Cox manages to escape and get back to his feet.

An inside leg kick from Jenkins misses.
Cox circles away from the clinch attempt.

Jenkins gets a double leg takedown into Cox's guard.
Jenkins prevents Cox from getting back to his feet.
Jenkins slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Jenkins wants to pass the guard but Cox is keeping the position.

Cox has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Jenkins off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Jenkins shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Cox manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Cox is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Cox wants to stand up but Jenkins is controlling him.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Reinaldo Cox.
Well Jenkins has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
