Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Chen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zakai Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zakai Turner is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andrew Chen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Zakai Turner!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chen drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Turner keeping full guard, as Chen tries to pass.
Turner working a defensive guard here.
Chen thows a big elbow that misses.
Chen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Turner is keeping the position for now.
Chen controls from within his opponent's guard.
Chen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Turner swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Chen looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Chen working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Turner misses with a two punch combination.
Turner misses with a takedown attempt

and Chen decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Turner's guard.
Turner looks gassed!
Chen seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chen pushes down on Turner's leg and manages to get into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Chen wants to pass to mount but Turner is defending the position.

Chen is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Chen tries to pass to full mount but Turner defends it.
Still in half guard, Chen seems content to control.
Turner is looking to control Chen's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Turner avoid being mounted?
Turner has a hand on Chen's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Chen takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Chen scores with a couple of good head shots there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Turner tries to lock up and control but Chen gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Chen is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Turner is surviving well by controlling Chen's body position as best he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chen has control of Turner's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Turner regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Turner is looking to improve his position but Chen isn't that keen on the idea.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Turner swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Chen controlling his opponent.
Chen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Turner's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Andrew Chen dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Turner with a poor takedown

and Chen counters with a single leg into guard. Turner didn't expect that.
Chen passes into half guard.

Chen is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Turner trying to control here.
Chen works his way into side control.
A lull in the action here as Chen stalls from top position.
Turner is looking for a sweep.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chen taking a breather here.
Turner tries to improve position but can't.
A lull in the action here.
Turner is trying to work for a sweep but Chen has mounted him!
Chen with a couple of short strikes.
Turner wants to control but Chen is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Chen is going olschool here, as he tries to force Turner to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Turner shrugs it off.

Chen throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Turner has his hands clasped together but Chen breaks the hold and Turner is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Chen!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Andrew Chen!
