Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Moises Pope (ranked 6082 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Alexsej (ranked 7869 p4p, 0 weight class). Michael Alexsej will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Michael Alexsej!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Roosa Järviläinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alexsej leaves Pope with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Pope slips a jab and a cross from Alexsej.

Alexsej forces Pope back against the cage and clinches.

Pope ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Pope no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Pope utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Pope wants to get back to his feet but Alexsej is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alexsej has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Pope is proving hard to escape from.

Pope bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Alexsej's guard.

Pope slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Pope looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Alexsej with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Pope dives in and scores a takedown into Alexsej's guard.
Alexsej wants to get back to his feet but Pope passes into half guard.

Pope is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Alexsej throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Pope manages to pass to side control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Pope in particular looking to stall.
Pope blocks the strikes from Alexsej.
Alexsej tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Pope has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Pope's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Alexsej wants to control but Pope is having none of it.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Horrible takedown attempt by Pope or perhaps it was just good defense by Alexsej, which made it look bad.

Pope closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Alexsej to the mat! Alexsej manages to get full guard.

Alexsej takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Pope has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Pope gets to his feet - Alexsej follows without any prompting.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Pope is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Alexsej's half guard.
Alexsej is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Pope scores with a couple of nice shots.
Pope seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Pope lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Pope working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Pope seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Pope throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Alexsej tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Pope is in Alexsej's guard.
Alexsej wants to get back to his feet but Pope passes into half guard.

Pope is controlling the pace.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Pope.

And that's the end of the fight!
Moises Pope showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pope, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
