Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arnoldo Vargas (ranked 24977 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Brian (ranked 5512 p4p, 0 weight class). James Brian will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Arnoldo Vargas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, James Brian!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Donald Grub and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brian fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Vargas to the ground. Brian is now in Vargas's guard.

Vargas has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Brian has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Brian drags the fight down to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brian looks winded!
Vargas wants to stand but Brian has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Brian avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Vargas working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Vargas might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Brian holds on and takes a little breather.
Brian is looking to stand up but Vargas isn't so interested in that idea.
Vargas with a flurry of punches that miss.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vargas accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Vargas throws a big elbow that misses.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Vargas really is a fat lump.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brian looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Vargas is fending him off so far but Brian persists. Nope, Vargas circles away and we're back to standing.

Vargas looking to score a takedown here. Brian is defending well but Vargas drives through and ends up in Brian's guard.
Vargas loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Vargas wants to stand but Brian is controlling his posture from full guard.

Vargas gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Brian closes the distance and clinches up with Vargas, looking for a takedown. Brian pushes Vargas against the cage but Vargas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Brian slaps away a takedown attempt from Vargas, before circling back to the center of the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vargas fails with the takedown.
Vargas shoots in for a double leg but Brian sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arnoldo Vargas. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Brian has Vargas up against the cage in a clinch.

Vargas gets control of Brian's arms and successfully pulls guard. Vargas will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Brian won't allow Vargas to sweep him here.

Brian seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Brian content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Brian wants to stand but Vargas has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Vargas has momentary wrist control but Brian slips an elbow through the middle.
Vargas wants to hit a switch here but Brian passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Vargas there!

Brian looking to finish Vargas with some ground and pound. This is bad for Vargas!
Vargas knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Brian on the ground.
Brian controlling from mount.
Vargas gets back to half guard.
Brian passes to side control.
Brian grinds an elbow into Vargas's temple.

Brian is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Vargas knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Vargas tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Brian wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but James Brian will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!



Brian closes the distance and clinches.
Vargas is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Brian gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Brian lands with a light punch inside.
Vargas tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Brian just stands there and leans against the cage.

Brian manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Vargas drops back, looking for a kneebar! Brian looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Brian looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Brian!

Vargas takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Brian is breathing heavily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Vargas is trying to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vargas seems a little lost for a moment, as Brian dominates the positioning.

Vargas wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Brian has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Vargas's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Vargas is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Brian!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). James Brian!
