The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dunstan tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kirkland paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Dunstan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Kirkland tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Dunstan defends well and Kirkland ends up having to push Dunstan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Nice takedown defense from Dunstan. No joy for Kirkland on that attempt.
As Kirkland backs off Dunstan throws a huge counter combo but Kirkland manages to avoid it all.

Dunstan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kirkland wants to get up but he can't break Dunstan's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Dunstan has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kirkland is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Dunstan.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Dunstan is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Kirkland is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

Dunstan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kirkland. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Kirkland is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Dunstan can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Dunstan wants to hold on but Kirkland pushes him away.

Kirkland is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Dunstan can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Kirkland slips a nice elbow through Dunstan's hands, connecting with Dunstan's forehead.
Dunstan is looking for a sweep. Kirkland is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Kirkland lands a big shot there that rocks Dunstan but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dunstan is looking to improve his position but Kirkland isn't that keen on the idea.

Kirkland has control of Dunstan's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Dunstan regains control of the situation pretty easily.
