And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Carlos Munoz!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Ben Zyskovitsi and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kirkland shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Kirkland walks into a stiff left hand from Munoz.
Munoz lands with an uppercut that bounces Kirkland off the cage and back into range.
Munoz lands a jab-cross combination.
Munoz punishes Kirkland's body with a nice straight punch.
Munoz looks to land a combination but Kirkland avoids it well.
A little feinted left hand from Kirkland on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Munoz lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Munoz lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kirkland takes a jab right on the kisser.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kirkland.
No joy there for Munoz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Munoz throws a left and a right that both miss
and Kirkland counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Munoz is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Nice straight punches there by Munoz. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Munoz.

Munoz fails to land with a series of punches.
Munoz misses with a series of wild punches.
Kirkland tries to counter with a takedown but Munoz is quick to defend against it.
Munoz lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Kirkland looking to score a takedown here. Munoz is defending well but Kirkland drives through and ends up in Munoz's guard.
Munoz is looking to stand back up but Kirkland counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Munoz.

Kirkland stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Munoz looks winded!

Kirkland closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Munoz quickly recovers to half guard.
Munoz pushes Kirkland off but Kirkland dives into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The referee asks Kirkland politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Kirkland prefers to stall for the moment though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Munoz can do anything to dispel that myth.
Munoz wants to get back to his feet.
Munoz tries to improve position but can't.

Kirkland stands up.
Munoz throws a combination that misses

and Kirkland holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Kirkland looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Munoz tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Kirkland manages to move to mount!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kirkland takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Munoz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kirkland. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kirkland lands a nice shot to the head.
Kirkland fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Munoz is bucking up trying to escape but Kirkland cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kirkland takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jarod Kirkland will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Kirkland closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Munoz tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Jarod Kirkland overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Kirkland lands a big elbow - Munoz is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Munoz is forced to tap out!
