TWGC 19 (155lbs, D1): Montreal Qualifier - Round 1 PBP Commentary


Coming up we have a lightweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Mario Curran (ranked 521 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Morrison (ranked 2247 p4p, 0 weight class). Morrison is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Diary of a Madman. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 2 losses; Mario Curran! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 5 losses; David Morrison!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Steve Smith.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Morrison shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Curran is trying to defend but Morrison finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Curran wants to control but Morrison is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Curran is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Morrison pulls his head out easily.

Morrison seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Curran does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

My spies in Martial Arts Dojo inform me that Morrison has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Curran throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Morrison escapes and throws Curran's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Morrison is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Curran to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Curran shrugs it off.
Curran wants to hold on but Morrison pushes him away.

Morrison swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Curran is now in Morrison's guard. A big mistake from Morrison there, giving up the dominant position!
