PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jose Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Poulain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jose Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Poulain!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Poulain as he avoids it easily.
Poulain looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

and Sanchez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Poulain won't be happy with that.

Sanchez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Sanchez seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Poulain for as long as he can get away with.

Poulain is looking to regain half guard here but Sanchez keeps moving and retains side control.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sanchez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Poulain on the ground.

Poulain has Sanchez pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Sanchez manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Sanchez is trying to trip Poulain. He has hold of a leg but Poulain is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Sanchez persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Poulain is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Poulain tries to lock up and control but Sanchez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Sanchez cracks Poulain with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Sanchez breaks from Poulain's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Poulain tries to lock up and control but Sanchez gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Poulain is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Sanchez controlling the position easily from mount.
Sanchez prevents Poulain from getting the reversal.
Sanchez connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Poulain tries to get back to half guard but can't.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sanchez can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Poulain is looking to escape.

Jose Sanchez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Poulain scores with a leg kick.
Sanchez fails to land the takedown.
Sanchez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Poulain pinned against the cage. Poulain gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Sanchez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sanchez accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sanchez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
