Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Battock (ranked 449 p4p, 53 weight class) and Mike Rutherford (ranked 1357 p4p, 156 weight class). Rutherford has chosen Genesis - Deep in the Motherlode as his entrance music. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rutherford tries to land a body kick
and Battock connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Rutherford throws a nice head kick!
Battock moves out of range of the body kick from Rutherford.

Rutherford throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Rutherford has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

and Battock counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Battock slaps away a takedown attempt from Rutherford, before circling back to the center of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rutherford moves into the clinch.
Rutherford jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Battock walks away with a smile on his face. Rutherford gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Battock stuns Rutherford with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

and Battock cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Battock has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Ferocious Beast in the buildup to the fight.
John Battock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Rutherford.
Rutherford throws a low kick but Battock avoids it.
