PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shirley Eaton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ted Norman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Norman has chosen Da Ya Think I'm Sexy? as his entrance music. Norman has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Shirley Eaton has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Shirley Eaton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ted Norman!
The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Paul Tew and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Norman throws a series of punches but Eaton moves out of range.
Norman looks winded!
Eaton shoots in for a takedown but Norman shows good takedown defense.

Norman darts in and clinches Eaton up against the cage.
Norman is trying to stall.
Eaton throws a head punch that misses.

Eaton has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Norman regains guard immediately.

Norman is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Eaton presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Eaton is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Norman to keep the fight standing.
Eaton has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Norman after a bit of a struggle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shirley Eaton. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Norman wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Norman prevents a takedown attempt there.
Norman wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Eaton has him pressed against the cage.

Norman has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Eaton can't get the takedown.
Norman tries to break free but Eaton pushes him back against the cage.
Eaton goes for a takedown attempt but Norman pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Eaton tries for a takedown but Norman manages to get underhooks.

Eaton manages to break the clinch.
Norman throws a shot from downtown. Eaton moves away and avoids it.
Eaton needs to keep his hands up - Norman had a free shot at his head there.
Eaton tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Norman defends well and Eaton ends up having to push Norman into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Norman clinches with his opponent.

Eaton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Norman avoids a kick to the body.
Shirley Eaton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Eaton misses with a takedown attempt - Norman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Norman tries to land a front kick but Eaton steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Eaton misses with a jab, cross combination.
No joy there for Norman, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Norman stuffs the takedown.
Norman shoots in for a double leg but Eaton sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Eaton is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

Norman avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Eaton will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Eaton shoots in and drives through. Norman sprawls well.

Eaton shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Eaton was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Norman tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Norman rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Eaton drives through with a takedown into Norman's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Eaton would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Ted Norman has got the better of the ground game so far.

Eaton is looking to stand up but Norman won't let him.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Eaton's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Eaton is looking to stand up but Norman won't let him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Eaton is defended easily by Norman.

Norman gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Eaton to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Eaton cracks Norman with a solid left hand.
Eaton throws a big right hand that misses.
Eaton is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Eaton wanted to stand there but Norman had control of the position.

Norman wants to stand and escape but Eaton is having none of it.
Eaton missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Eaton stands up and waves to Norman to follow him.

Eaton has taken the fight to the clinch.
Eaton wants a takedown.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Eaton tries for a takedown but Norman manages to get underhooks.

Norman gets underhooks to prevent Eaton's takedown attempt.
Eaton drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Norman gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Eaton wants to clinch up but Norman keeps it at a distance.
Eaton really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Norman misses with a double jab.
Eaton tries to score a power double leg takedown but Norman sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Eaton somewhat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Eaton shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Norman sprawls well. Norman wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Eaton gets slowly back to his feet.
A little jabbing left from Norman on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Eaton is defended easily by Norman.
Norman is looking for the big counter here.

Norman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Norman wants it to stay on the feet.

and Norman counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Eaton shoots in looking for a takedown but Norman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Eaton's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Eaton is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Norman to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Norman shrugs it off.
Norman tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Eaton lands a heavy elbow.
Eaton postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Norman looks a forlorn figure.
Norman is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Eaton is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Eaton is looking to clinch.
And Norman tries to counter it with a takedown but Eaton pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Eaton shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Norman pinned against the cage. Norman gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Eaton fails with the takedown.
Eaton defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Norman.
Eaton shoots in looking for a takedown. Norman tries to sprawl out of it but Eaton keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Norman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A little jabbing left from Norman on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Shirley Eaton.
I think Eaton has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
