PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Aldo Crespo (ranked 4276 p4p, 215 weight class) and Scott Kannberg (ranked 2397 p4p, 129 weight class). Crespo comes to the ring accompanied by Silent Lucidity. Kannberg is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Pavement: 'Date with IKEA'. Scott Kannberg has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Aldo Crespo's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Aldo Crespo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Scott Kannberg!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yukihiro Shimada and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crespo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Kannberg.
Crespo attempts a counter takedown but Kannberg avoids it well and moves away.
Crespo really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Crespo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kannberg moves away.
No joy there for Kannberg, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kannberg tries a head kick but it misses.
Crespo throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kannberg stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

A swing and a miss from Crespo.

Kannberg moves into the clinch successfully.
Kannberg working some nice short punches in the clinch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Kannberg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kannberg breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Crespo drops his hands momentarily and Kannberg takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Crespo takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Crespo tries a head kick but it misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kannberg misses with a head kick.
Crespo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kannberg moves away.

and Crespo counters with a takedown into side control.
Kannberg is trying to control Crespo's posture but Crespo avoids it.

Crespo is trying to get an arm triangle but Kannberg is defending well.

Crespo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Crespo wants to control but Kannberg is keeping him busy.
Kannberg tries to buck Crespo off but Crespo is having none of it.
Kannberg felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Kannberg struggling a bit here.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Crespo throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Crespo goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Kannberg rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Crespo's guard! Nice work there by Kannberg!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kannberg lands a couple of elbows.
Crespo wants to improve his position but instead Kannberg has moved into half guard.
Kannberg seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Crespo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kannberg takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Kannberg wants to take a breather but Crespo is having none of it.
Kannberg is pressing down on Crespo's thigh, looking to free his foot. Crespo is holding on for now.
Crespo is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Crespo is trying to maintain the position but Kannberg is very close to passing his half guard.

Crespo tries to get to full guard but Kannberg has control of the leg.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kannberg is trying to control the action in half guard but Crespo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Scott Kannberg dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Crespo takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Kannberg bobbing and weaving well here. And he's unloaded with a massive right hand that drops Crespo! He dives into his guard looking to finish!


Crespo is rocked!

Oh Crespo is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kannberg has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kannberg postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Crespo covers up, he's hurt! Kannberg keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Kannberg and the ref steps in to end the fight! Kannberg can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Scott Kannberg!
Our winner, Scott Kannberg, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
