Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shane Carwin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jake Baker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baker has chosen The Duck Song as his entrance music. Jake Baker has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shane Carwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Baker!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Baker decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Baker seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Baker prevents Carwin from improving his position.
Carwin wants to control but Baker is keeping busy.
Carwin works his way to full guard. Good work.
Carwin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Baker is one step ahead there.

Baker thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Carwin utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Baker seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Baker stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carwin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Carwin is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Baker defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Baker feints and as Carwin raises his hands in defense, Baker changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Baker wants to control from the top but Carwin keeps moving.
Carwin really is a fat lump.

Despite being in the dominant position, Jake Baker just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Shane Carwin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Baker counters with a nice double leg into side control. Carwin won't be happy with that.

Baker decides to stand back up. Baker steps back and let's Carwin get back to his feet.

Carwin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Carwin postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Carwin wants to get up but he can't break Baker's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Baker can do anything to dispel that myth.

Baker's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Baker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carwin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Baker will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Baker fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Carwin sprawls well initially but Baker persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Baker blocks the strikes from Carwin.
Carwin moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Carwin is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Baker is stalling in the full guard.
Baker has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Carwin is proving hard to escape from.
Carwin wants to get back to his feet but Baker is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Carwin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Baker doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Baker manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Baker must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Baker slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Carwin is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Baker is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Baker is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Jake Baker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Baker is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Baker is pressing down on Carwin's thigh, looking to free his foot. Carwin is holding on for now.
