PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Max Handle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lip Ton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Handle kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Right On. Ton has chosen Snap - Rythm is a Dancing as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Max Handle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lip Ton!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ton shoots in but no luck this time.
Handle is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ton.
Ton with the counter takedown but Handle avoids it easily.
A low kick from Handle is predictable there

and Ton counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Handle is trying to control the position but Ton postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ton wants to pass the guard but Handle is keeping the position.
Ton is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Ton in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Ton keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Handle's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Handle is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Handle is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Ton has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

My spies in White's ELITE Fitness Gym inform me that Ton has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A big right from Handle misses.
Handle throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Donk. Ton catches Handle right on the button with a cross.
The fighters circling - Handle throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Lip Ton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Handle throws a lazy uppercut
and Ton counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Handle, as that shot connected.
Handle lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
A jab from Handle misses.
Handle throws a jab but it's blocked by Ton.
Handle moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Donk. Ton catches Handle right on the button with a cross.

Ton looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Ton thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Handle's head.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Handle throws out a loose jab but Ton uses good head movement to avoid it.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ton in particular looking to stall.

Max Handle has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Well, if Ton is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Let's hope that Ton has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
