Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Murha Pate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bill Newton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bill Newton told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Hugh Johnson.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Pate. No joy for Newton on that attempt.
Pate delivers a nice body kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Pate.
Newton connects with a looping right hand.
Newton drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Newton fails in his attempt to clinch.
Pate quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.

Newton shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Pate as he jumps to the side.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Newton misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Pate makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Newton gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Pate to counter with a crisp jab.
Murha Pate has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bill Newton.

Pate leaves Newton with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Newton.

Pate sneaks out the side door and pushes Newton away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Newton shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Newton was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pate is looking for a sweep.

Newton is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pate is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Pate is looking to reverse the position.
